Hong Kong Food Market in Terrytown is primarily a bustling Asian grocery store with a strong focus on fresh produce, meat, and specialty ingredients that cater to a diverse crowd looking for authentic culinary staples. This is not a typical supermarket experience; shoppers here navigate aisles stocked with items spanning multiple Asian cuisines, including Chinese, Indian, and Southeast Asian products, which makes it a practical stop for anyone cooking at home or looking to explore new flavors.

The atmosphere leans towards functional and straightforward rather than polished or boutique. It’s a place where locals come prepared to find fresh vegetables, a wide selection of seafood and meats from the butcher section, and some hard-to-find pantry staples. While the layout isn’t huge compared to similar stores in bigger cities, the range of goods is solid, offering a good balance between everyday essentials and ethnic specialties.

Visitors looking for fresh fish or meat will appreciate the butcher and seafood counters near the back, where the quality appears consistent, supporting longtime shoppers who have returned here for years. There’s also a spot offering prepared foods like Bánh Mì sandwiches, which adds a convenient grab-and-go option for those wanting a quick snack or light meal during their shopping trip.

Hong Kong Food Market is especially well-suited for home cooks who are somewhat familiar with Asian groceries but also friendly to newcomers eager to experiment with new ingredients. The store carries some popular bakery items from Dong Phuong Bakery, adding a familiar touch for locals who appreciate authentic Vietnamese baked goods.

One practical note: pricing can occasionally be unclear as many items lack visible price tags, so expect to occasionally ask staff for prices. The store does its best to keep restrooms clean and stocked, which is a small detail that enhances the overall visit, especially in a bustling market environment.

Best times to visit would likely be earlier in the day or midweek when the crowds thin out a bit, as the market can get busy with weekend shoppers stocking up. This steady flow keeps the produce fresh but means some vigilance is necessary when selecting perishable goods.

While there have been some past concerns about product freshness, particularly with items like eggs, management appears responsive and willing to address customer issues directly, which might encourage repeat visits once initial concerns are resolved.

For Terrytown residents and those from surrounding areas, Hong Kong Food Market offers more than just a grocery run—it’s a place where shopping for authentic ingredients feels accessible, and the selection reflects the neighborhood’s growing diversity and culinary interests.

OMG This Place is AWESOME. It's not quite as big as in Atlanta, and I would have liked to have seen more products from the Phillipines, but absolutely great. Wide variety of practical products and the produce was super fresh! COMPLETELY do not agree with Royce's poor review.

They carry Dong Phuong Bakery goods here, and lots of diverse ethnic asian products. The restrooms are clean and stocked with toilet paper. Although the only minor issue is that many items dont have price tags listed

This place has got their shit together they are quick and efficient getting you loaded and out of there as fast as possible paperwork is put together right and for a multi-drop load it is always nice to have names on each individual pallet telling us which store goes to thank you for being awesome. I didn't say a word about your product not sure what that part of your response is about and I said absolutely nothing about advice for anything so you're way off base with your entire response. Perhaps reading a little slower would help you understand the review you're getting. I hold a load of your product to deliver to multiple stores I could care less about the product itself just in your efficiency and loading. Maybe next time read a little closer and understand what is being said.

update. march 25, 2025 today we found the managment team and they solved the problem for us. so we went back to buy things again. Please don't go there, if you Really wanna go, then Remember that they are not responsible for any bad or expired food. Last week we bought these eggs. And i found out that they were bad eggs and one was bad Enough to see the worms moving inside. We brought them back today and they refused to replace for us. Their Attitude is Really bad. I can't believe this would happen in the US. We not going there anymore. For the manager, Whats the point to lose 2 Customers Because of the bad eggs you sold!

I've been going to this location for years. They have a lot of Asian food/drink items for reasonable prices. There is also an area in the back of the store where you can get fresh fish or other meat. You can also get Bamh Mi sandwiches and other prepared food items . While there are separate places of business that surround Hong Kong Market, the entrance to the actual market contains Mr. Bubble, a cool Banh Mi and Bubble Tea cafe . The prices are reasonable and the service is good.

Great variety of Asian groceries, excellent produce (easily best in town) and a wide and superb selection of beer, wine, and liquor. By far the best beer and liquor on the Westbank. They also have lots of home goods like dishes and kitchen implements , cleaning and paper goods, middle eastern foods, Hispanic foods, meat and fish, and an area that makes fresh sandwiches and some fresh but packaged foods/meals. Really awesome, and stayed opened after Hurricane Ida too, which was a life saver. Truly a gem and an awesome resource. Very grateful to have such an awesome place available.

This Asian market has an impressive variety of fresh ingredients and authentic products that are hard to find anywhere else. The produce section is well-stocked, and I was surprised by how many fresh herbs, noodles, sauces, and snacks they carry from different Asian countries. I especially liked the seafood and meat selections—they offer good quality and many options for hot pot, grilling, or home cooking. The store also has a great selection of ready-to-eat items, pastries, and snacks if you just want something quick. Everything was easy to find, the aisles were organized, and the staff was friendly when I needed help locating an item. Overall, this is a great place for anyone who loves Asian food or wants to try new ingredients. I’ll definitely stop by again whenever I’m in the area.
